Tree Sets: The Unsung Hero of the Pig Brig® Trap System

Tree Sets: The Unsung Hero of the Pig Brig® Trap System

If you know the Pig Brig® Trap System, you’ve probably seen it set up with T-posts. But here’s something you might not know — you don’t have to use T-posts at all. Nature already provides everything you need to build a solid trap set in those hard-to-reach places: trees.

That’s right. The Pig Brig Trap System was originally designed to be set up without T-posts. Sometimes pigs are stubborn. They hang back in the brush and won’t come out into the open. When that happens, you’ve got to go where they are. That’s the beauty of the Pig Brig: it’s flexible, versatile, and built to work where the pigs live.

Unlike the T-post setup, a tree setup is more about ingenuity than following the rules — creativity rather than exact science. Look for the trees, use what’s around you, and channel your inner Picasso in the woods (even if your last masterpiece was a macaroni necklace in kindergarten). Once you’ve done it a time or two, you’ll see just how quick and adaptable this setup can be.

You can set it using T-posts, trees, or a mix of both. Once you’ve tried a few setups, the Tree setup might just become your favorite.

How a Tree Set Works

  • Use 6–10 trees as your “posts.” The woods do most of the work, you just need to hook it up.
  • 6-foot double-hooked cam straps secure the trap’s top line to the trees. No T-post mounts, drive rods, or external anchors required.
  • Internal Anchor Stakes keep the skirt in place inside the trap. Because stability matters, even when you’re being stealthy.
